I collaborated with Tom Roope and his seminal digital practice The Rumpus Room on a series of crowdsourced video activations, including projects for Dell and Bon Jovi. In this project, we created a TVC and music video based on Lily Allen’s ‘The Fear’, where the singer was transformed into a dynamic mosaic of video clips of fans filmed by street teams across the UK.
I worked with film director Caswell Coggins and The Rumpus Room to develop a complete ‘crowdsourced video’ workflow. We created a portable kit that street teams could use to film people, including specially printed coloured backgrounds, using the limited palette of colours used in the video. We developed a bespoke post-production and digital workflow, including content moderation tools and custom software to create tiles of video clips at different levels of detail.
I supervised a small team of editors, VFX and creative coders to put together a TVC and music video, under Caswell’s direction. The TVC was shown at a prime time slot, during the final of The X Factor.
The music video was highlighted as a Vimeo Staff Pick and was, at that point, one of the most viewed music videos on MSN. The campaign’s website generated 32 million page impressions.
